Painted on a Gallery Wrap Canvas that does not require framing for display.
"Yellow Square" is a Non-Objective Geometric work painted in 2007 specifically to use Black as a featured component of a composition.
In the past I've found that using black in a dominant manner creates issues regarding balance and / or symmetry that tend to distort visual stability and appeal. And, though some may disagree, in my view maintaining visual balance is important even with Abstract and Non-representational work. It's something I've found difficult to overcome. But, in this work - though not a slam dunk - I believe the small "yellow square" centered in the catty-cornered imagery succeeded in creating a measure of balance. Look at it and you'll feel both pulling at your eyes to gain control.
The Painting hangs in a corporate collection in Red Bank, New Jersey.
